Less than two years after its founding, Blaze Software Inc., an Ottawa company that developed technology for helping  the sites of Web businesses operate faster, has been acquired by Akamai Technologies, Inc. , a  Cambridge, Mass.-based company with a global cloud platform for content delivery and Web services.

The acquisition price for the cash transaction was not disclosed when the deal was announced earlier this month, but Akamai said the Blaze technology will complement its site acceleration services offering by optimizing the speed at which a web page is rendered, regardless of end user device.

Montreal lawyers at Stikeman Elliott LLP acted for Akamai in Canada with a team  that included John Leopold, Warren Silversmith, Maria Reda, Barbara Sheng (corporate); Frank Mathieu (tax); Jonathan Auerbach (intellectual property); Lorna Cuthbert, Randall Boessenkool (employment and labour), under leadership by Akamai’s senior associate general counsel, Nicole Fitzpatrick. WilmerHale LLP acted as Akamai’s U.S. counsel with a team including Graham Robinson and Ian C. Wildgoose Brown.

Representing Blaze was Ottawa’s LaBarge Weinstein LLP with a team including Debbie Weinstein, Colin Wrynn and Chase Irwin.

In 2007, Blaze founder Mike Weider sold his company Watchfire to IBM Corp. for $100 million. Read more about both deals here.
